In 1930 a group of Swiss immigrants created a cooperative of yerba mate producers in Santo Pipó, Misiones, Argentina.

For more than thirty years cooperative was growing and producing yerba mate only to supply other companies, until in the beginning of 1960s they started to make their own yerba mate under the new brand Piporé that was marketed in Argentina and later abroad. Today Piporé is amongst the 10 largest companies of yerba mate in the country and is the second exporter worldwide.
